“I did learn a lot from Andy when he was starting out as a stand-up comedian, though; not so much comedic technique (unlike him, if I make a pun I feel faint shame) as attitude. He sets very high standards for himself, and is fairly ruthless when he thinks a joke is cheap or too easy, or is bored of hearing himself say it. Also unlike a lot of comedians, his self-esteem doesn’t seem to be influenced at all by external factors like audience reaction or reviews or popularity; he appears not to need external validation at all. He has an innate confidence that I think stems from his terrifyingly powerful intellect, which he chooses to squander upon sports trivia.”

Last night at my 6th visit to the McKittrick Hotel, I spent a lot of time with the voyers (a full cycle with the Porter and some time with Fulton). I never quite believed people that the Porter is as amazing as he is, and boy was I wrong - what a fascinating way to spend a loop, it connected so many things, and made me so, so sad.

(Also, the actor, who I believe was Miguel Anaya, dealt very well with a super drunk obnoxious girl, who thought that her dancing on the hotel desk was more important than Banquo receiving his prophecy. Well done, sir. Aside from that, the audience was a lot better than I feared at my first late night show.)

I saw things I had always wanted to see - the interrogation room, Sexy Witch/MacDuff, Porter-stuff in general. And watched some old favorites - the door dance, Banquo’s luggage room solo, Boy Witch’s lip sync. I even spent a lovely 1:1 with the Sexy Witch. It was a great, great trip.

It also felt a little bit like good-bye. I have no idea when I will next be in NYC, though hopefully no more than a year will go by. But even though I will be back to the City, I don’t know that I will go back to the show. It’s very hard to justify seeing a show again (even one as dynamic and changing and special as SNM) in my limited visits. There is just so much to see! I am still hoping to see Pippin tomorrow, and I wanted to see Here Lies Love at the Public, but I don’t know if that is going to happen.

Maybe someday Punchdrunk will do something on the West Coast and until then, I will still devour the tumblr tag and all the amazing adventures of all you wonderful super fans.

Plus I will keep a piece of the McKittrick on me at times with these special Scottish Thistle earrings. I premiered them last night. My friend Jocelyn made them after much badgering from me. Now I have to convince her to put them on her etsy store.

(If folks are interested, let me know. These are about an inch wide, and could be easily made into a necklace too. She can also do laser cutting on wood instead of the hard plastic.)

In honor of my friend the Porter, I end wondering when you will finally collect my tears?
